open wound 02:52
I was an open wound When we were driving on the pike You said nothing when I told you I was an open wound You were a band aid You said nothing You think that I’m a wave But I’m undertow Trying to explain The way I sink deeper when you touch my hand And I know that healing’s not a straight line But you keep saying I’ll get better in time Tied iron to my feet Then watched as I Sank down Just to prove a point Just to nail it right in I was an open wound Looking for a good time A time that nobody could show me I was an open wound Looking for a good time That nobody could show me So I scream Out the front window to the black That I won’t do it I won’t do it I won’t do it

Your love is a diamond It sharpens me so nice But I was ever one for Sharpness or disguise The wind told me a secret More coming where that came from And I saw the trees shiver And brace for all to come Take me dancing Touch my skin and hold me Anything Anything to feel close again Your love is a disaster It frightens me so bad But I’ll keep looking straight Blinders up Yeah I’ve got it made There’s a train the next block over Whistle blows on foggy nights Sneaks through my open window But I don’t mind the noise No I don’t mind the noise Take me dancing Touch my skin and hold me Anything Anything to feel close again Take me dancing Touch my skin and hold me Anything Anything to feel close again Feel close again Close again

unravel 03:17 video
While you are away My heart comes undone Slowly unravels in a ball of yarn Devil collects it with a grin Our love, in a ball of yarn He’ll never return it So when you come back We’ll have to make new love He’ll never return it So when you come back we’ll have to make new love

When the long day’s done and you’re coming up slow Buckets are full and nowhere to go There they go, beautiful birds Got water on all sides and coming up Got water on all sides and coming up Water on all sides I can see it from above Peach skies and water green Everywhere I go it sings to me: ‘You don’t need to grab it, You don’t need to hold it in your hands To know what it’s worth’ Peach skies and water green All sides and peaceful trees It’s flooding below me I can see From the air From the air How to define a horizon line? Does it have to be a line? A meeting of points with no direction A cease of movement, an intersection You don’t need to grab it, You don’t need to hold it in your hands To know what it’s worth To know what it’s worth

I’m right here Made of sun Getting killed by it now Getting killed by it now Piano In a far away room I hear your piano I hear your piano Take a step right there One more step further there What have you learned now What have you learned? That I brought it in Like spring rain, always Cover myself again Bury, warm soil I’ll just wander in And do it Like coming home How I’ll do it Like spring rain Like spring rain Always, always I’m right here Made of sun Getting killed by it now Getting killed by it now Sitting in traffic Watching the time fly Is how I’ll remember The way our life was back then Sitting in traffic Watching the time fly Feeling the heat of The sun through the window Is how I’ll remember Sitting in traffic watching the time fly Is how I’ll remember how it was

ruby at dawn 03:49
Ruby at dawn Walked all of me home Couldn't tell the difference Between our clothes I wore her shirt She wore my shoes I didn't think I'd Be the one she'd choose The air was thick The bugs were loud We stood in silence We were the crowd Ruby at dusk Is how I'll remember An innocent murder The dead of the summer And it was sweet, how it felt Speeding into the night with you Speeding in But now I know How much can change But I know that the night Caresses my room Now it is summer And the sun is falling down To the ground To the ground Ruby at dawn Walked all of me home Couldn't tell the difference Between our clothes But now I know Not to feel regret And the light of the sky Caresses my room The light of the sky Caresses my room

live wire 03:30
Will you take me in? I'm fading And falling And everything, you know How it is What it is What it was And will be Don't slip Or skid Or move Or breathe Or laugh Or die Or turn Or touch me Don't do anything I'm a live wire To be with you I'd love another To be with you I'd cut my hair To be with you I'd leave another To be with you I'd kill my friends To be with you I'd fuck it all And leave at the first sign of snow Will you take me in I'm fading And falling And everything, you know Don't slip Or skid Or move Or breathe Or laugh Or die Or turn Or touch me Don't do anything I'm a live wire I'm a live wire

about

Since releasing her debut album, I Was Born Swimming, in 2019, Squirrel Flower’s creative force, Ella Williams, has been on an unwavering upward trajectory, perfecting her craft of creating songs rooted in emotional devastation and exhilarating command. She’s been featured as an “Artist to Watch” on Rolling Stone, included on Stereogum’s “40 Best New Bands of 2020” list, and has been covered in countless outlets such as Pitchfork, The Guardian, FADER, and others. On her sophomore album, Planet (i), Williams was buoyed by her steadfast vision and propelled by her burning comet of a voice - the record is a love letter to disaster in every form imaginable.

On self-produced Planet EP, Williams’ hauntingly beautiful voice remains at the forefront, with instrumentation that’s both layered and minimal - acoustic guitar, twinkling piano, synth, and the ambient sounds of the city overheard in the background while Williams was recording. On her cover of Björk’s Homogenic standout, “unravel,” Williams highlights the iconic vocal melody in a blanket of reverb and fuzz, while “ruby at dawn” (originally recorded during the Planet (i) sessions) features a steady organ progression that eventually opens up with a sparse drum beat intertwined with glimmering effects that compliment the lyrics. This 7-song EP is an intimate look at what makes Williams one of the strongest and most prolific songwriters of the new decade.
